Cherry angiomas are common, benign growths made up of tiny blood vessels near the skin’s surface. They appear as small, bright red to purple spots and often develop with age on the chest, abdomen, back, arms, and other areas of the body.
While harmless, many patients choose to remove cherry angiomas for cosmetic reasons or because they become irritated, catch on clothing, or bleed when traumatized.
At Pacific Plastic Surgery Group, cherry angiomas can be treated safely and effectively using Electrocautery or the Nd:YAG 1064 nm laser.
Electrocautery uses a fine-tipped device to deliver controlled heat to the blood vessels within the angioma, causing the lesion to dry up and gradually heal.
Nd:YAG 1064 nm laser targets the blood vessels that make up the angioma without damaging the surrounding skin. The laser energy causes the vessels to coagulate and collapse, allowing the body to naturally clear the lesion over time. This option is particularly effective for multiple angiomas and lesions of varying sizes, with minimal downtime.
What to expect during and after the treatment
Most treatments are well tolerated and can be completed in a single appointment. Following treatment, the area may appear slightly red, darkened, or develop a small crust before healing over the following days to weeks.
