Nipple Reduction Surgery in Vancouver

Nipple reduction is a minor surgery performed to reduce the size and projection of the nipples. Women may have concerns about nipple size and projection, which can occur from breast development or enlargement following pregnancies and breastfeeding. Nipple reduction can be combined with other breast procedures, including breast augmentation, breast lift, correction of inverted nipples, and a combination nipple and areola reduction to give you the breast appearance you desire.

How is Nipple Reduction Performed?

Nipple reduction is most commonly performed under local anesthetic in the office setting. Topical local anesthetic may be used in addition to injected local anesthetic. Surgical time is 60-75 minutes. There are several techniques for nipple reduction depending on your nipple size and final aesthetic goals. Your plastic surgeon will discuss with you the best technique for you during your consultation. The procedure will involve removing excess nipple tissue while still maintaining a pleasing cosmetic appearance. Following surgery, Tylenol and Advil will be required to minimize discomfort.

Nipple Reduction Recovery

Following nipple reduction surgery, most patients can return to regular activities within 24-48 hours.  Vigorous activity can begin after 7-10 days. Patients will receive detailed aftercare instructions regarding physical activity restrictions, wound care and showering post-op.  It is recommended to wear a loose-fitting bra during recovery.   Sutures do not need to be removed, as they are self-dissolving. Nipple sensitivity typically returns to normal within one month after surgery.
