Thigh Lift / Thighplasty Surgery in Vancouver

An inner thigh life is a procedure that removes excess skin on the inner thigh where a loss of elasticity exists. Many patients desire this surgery to complete their weight loss journey. During the consultation, a detailed surgical plan will be created to meets the patient’s aesthetic goals. During thigh surgery, an incision is made along the groin crease, from the bikini line in the front to the buttocks crease in the back. Once this incision has been made, liposuction is used to remove excess fat, and loose skin will be lifted and trimmed away. Depending on the extent of the surgery, a draining tube may be placed to help control bleeding. Rarely, an incision is made along the inseam of the thigh, although this is very uncommon and rarely required.

The Surgical Experience

A thigh lift is performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility and typically takes around 2-3 hours to complete. It is considered an outpatient procedure. If this surgery is combined with another body contouring procedure, then the patient may be required to stay overnight in the facility. Following surgery, a compression garment will be used to help control swelling and promote circulation. Patients will experience a slow return of normal function.

Cost

The average cost for a thigh lift procedure varies. This price will increase if the surgery is combined with another body contouring procedure.

FAQs

  • Liposuction or lift?

The decision to perform a skin lift versus liposuction only will depend on the elasticity of the patient’s skin. Patients that have small volumes of fat in their legs may be candidates for liposuction only. In patients where there is an excess of loose, hanging skin, the only way to correct this problem is through a thigh lift procedure.

  • Will there be a scar?

It’s important that patients understand scarring is a part of this procedure. The scar will extend along the inner groin crease and into the buttock fold. It is typically well hidden by undergarments. It is recommended that patients avoid excessive sun exposure during the first year to protect the incisions from any additional discoloration. Most patients believe the scars are a small trade-off for a new, shapelier leg. Our surgeons will discuss scar care to help assist in the healing process.

  • Can I combine this surgery with other procedures?

A thigh lift is a significant operation, and as such is rarely done in combination with another procedure. During your consultation, other lower body surgical options will be discussed and recommendations will be made on whether these procedures should be done at the same time.

  • What is a thigh lift and who is a candidate for this procedure?

A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the thighs to improve their shape and tone. Ideal candidates are those with loose skin or sagging in the thighs, often following weight loss, and are at or near their ideal body weight.

  • What are the different types of thigh lifts available?

There are several types of thigh lifts, including inner (medial) thigh lifts, outer thigh lifts, and vertical thigh lifts. The choice depends on the area of concern and the amount of excess skin to be removed. Your surgeon will recommend the best option for you.

  • What is the recovery time for a thigh lift?

Recovery typically takes 3 to 4 weeks. You can expect swelling, bruising, and discomfort during the initial healing phase. Most patients can return to light activities after 2 to 3 weeks, but full recovery, including returning to exercise, may take 6 to 8 weeks.

  • Are there risks or complications associated with a thigh lift?

Yes, risks include infection, bleeding, poor wound healing, scarring, and asymmetry. Other potential complications include changes in skin sensation and fluid accumulation. Working with a qualified surgeon can help minimize these risks.

  • Will a thigh lift help with weight loss?

A thigh lift is not a weight loss procedure. It is designed to remove excess skin and improve body contour after significant weight loss or due to aging. For optimal results, candidates should already be at a stable and healthy weight before the surgery.
